When the Qiang army intensified offensives, Cheng dispatched some defenders of the east and west gates to participate in defending the north-south gates. Qiang soldiers continued the assault by climbing the wall, but were killed by Cheng army in the close-quarter fight. Cheng army also continued to be killed.
